Rockmount Ladies are Cowdy Champions

THE final of the Cowdy Cup was played at Lisburn Golf Club on Friday September 7. Rockmount Ladies and Killymoon Ladies contested a very competitive final. Lorraine Toolan the Ladies Club and Team Captain picked her strongest team; Maureen Entwistle, Barbara Fleet, Jan Lindsay, Noreen Mikhael, Leonie Power and Diane Patterson. After nine holes the Rockmount Ladies had secured five of the available six points. Barbara, Jan and Leonie went on to secure the necessary points to win the cup with Noreen and Diane also leading in their matches when they were called in.

On Sunday September 2 both the Ladies and Gents Captain’s played for their respective Trophies. Current Ladies Captain Lorraine Toolan and Gents Captain Peter O’Hara were guest participants in the competitions. The Gent’s Past Captain’s Trophy was won by Dougie Fairweather with a 12 hole total of 24 points, second was Eric Chambers (23 points) and third was Robert Patterson (23 points). The Ladies Trophy was won by Leonie Power with a 12 hole score of 26 points with Norma Devenney in second place with 25 points and in third place was Daphne Beggs with 23 points.

The September Medal competition was played on Sunday 2nd and Monday 3rd September, over one hundred competitors entered the stroke competition. Winning by a stretch was Sean Lawell (18) who shot 86 for a nett 68. Second was Michael White (10) with a nett 69. Third and fourth both had nett 70’s Kevin Smylie (13) was third and Warren Burnside (5) was fourth. Colin Childs (12) was fifth with a nett 71. Warren Burnside’s gross score of 75 was also the lowest gross over the two days.

Saturday September 8 was the first competition of the Autumn Open Week sponsored by Copytext NI and Andrew Morris Golf. The stroke competition was won by Michael Mahood (9) who won with a nett score of 67. Roger Heasley (18) took second place with a score of nett 67. In third place was Charles Kerlin (22) with nett 68 and in fourth place was Colin McNeill (17) also with a nett 68. The lowest gross score was 75 by Jonny Patterson (4).

The Open Mixed Greensomes Competition on Sunday September 9 is always very popular; but it was the husband and wife pairing of Robert and Diane Patterson (joint proprietors) who stole the show with an unprecedented score of 47 points. Their nearest challengers were Gordon Goodfellow and Christine Martin who scored a creditable 41 points and in third place another husband and wife pairing Gordon and Alwyn Higham who scored 40 points. The gross prize was won by Ballyclare pair S and J McNeill with a score of 79.

Keith Baker (8) with 35 points won the Open Gents stable ford competition form Colin Tang (22) with 32 points on Tuesday 11th. On the same date Roy Armstrong (11) won the Open Gents Seniors with 35 points with John Haycock (19) second with 30 points.

On Saturday September 15, Rockmount Enterprises sponsored the stableford competition. The winner was Peter Coffey with a score of 42 points. In second place was Jerry McWilliams who scored 41 points. Gareth Milne won the low section (0-11) with 41 points. The middle section (11-17) was won by Gerry McSorley with 41 points and the high section (18-28) was won by Stephen Gilmore with 37 points. Warren Burnside won the gross with a magnificent score of 72.
