Rockmount ladies win All Ireland championship

COURTOWN Golf Club in County Wexford was the venue on Friday the 28th and Saturday 29th September for the All Ireland Ladies Inter Club Championship Finals.

Rockmount Ladies Junior Foursomes team having won the Ulster Section travelled to Courtown brimming with confidence. In the semi-final which was played on the Friday, Rockmount were drawn against Castletroy Golf Club, team Captain Diane Andrews sent Diane Patterson (16) & Sue McDonagh (19) out first. The second pair was Rosie McCrea (17) & Moyra Evans (18) and the third pair Christine Martin (20) and Leonie Power (15). Diane and Sue lost 3 and 2, Rosie and Moyra won 4 and 2 and Christine and Leonie won 3 and 2 for a team win off 2 -1.

The final on Saturday pitched Rockmount Ladies against Glen of the Downs Golf Club from East Leinster. Team Captain Diane Andrews made one change to her semi-final team bringing in Lady Captain Lorraine Toolan (16) for Diane Patterson. After nine holes the final was very much in the balance as Rockmount Ladies led in one match, were tied in one match and were behind in one match. Christine and Leonie out last put the first point on the board for Rockmount Ladies winning 4 and 3. Despite the gallant efforts, Glen of the Downs won both the other two matches; Lorraine and Sue lost 3 and 1 and Rosie and Moyra lost 2 and 1 and Glen of the Downs are the Junior Foursomes Inter Club Champions of Ireland. Ulster Golf did however have one winner on the day with Malone Golf Club who won the Senior Foursomes Inter Club Championship. On Saturday September 29 the Gents played a stableford competition for the Monteverde Cup. The winner with 41 points was Thomas McCreery (14) he beat his nearest rival Stephen Alexander (8) by 3 points. There was a batch of 37 points which was the score that won each of the sections. Jon D’Arcy (9) won the low section (0-11), Andrew Holywood (16) won the mid section (12-17) and the high section (18-28) was won by Andrew Glass (23). The lowest gross score was 78 by Michael Stewart (6). The Gents Winter league will be commencing at the end of October teams of six will be drawn into leagues with the top four in each league reaching the playoffs.
