Rockmount take the lead in the Junior Cowdy final

On Saturday the stableford competition at Rockmount was the Fairco McIlhagga Cup. Seventeen handicapper Colin McClelland; scored 41 points to win. The score of 41 points was equalled by three others; Colin McClenaghan (2) who was second, Gents Captain Glenn Willis (18) who won the high section (18-28) and Michael McShane (17) who won the mid-section (12-17). The low section (0-11) was won by Colin Henderson (5) with 39 points. Colin McClenaghan (2) also had the best gross on the day. However the gross prize went to Gregg Sterritt (4) who shot a one over par 73.

Tom Sloan’s Junior Cowdy team travelled to Kilkeel for the first leg of the Junior Cowdy final. John McGrath and Kevin Cusnahan went out first, losing a close encounter 2 & 1. Fergus McCartney and Bob McClean were staring defeat in the eyes when Fergus produced two stunning shots on the seventeenth to set up a win and secure a further half point for Rockmount. Jim Madden and David Bailey won 2 & 1 and Paul Clydesdale and Colin Paul won 3 & 2. Rockmount took a 21/2 to 11/2 lead into the home leg on Sunday.
