Rope has stableford tied up

SATURDAY’S stableford competition was the Fairco McIlhagga Cup and was played in excellent conditions.

The winner, out late in the afternoon, was Alan Roper. ‘Rope’ playing of a seven handicap, birdied the first, the second, the fourth, the tenth and the eleventh and was standing on the twelfth tee five under par; a score any professional would be proud of.

The first of four bogey’s on his card came at the short par three twelfth and the others at the fourteenth, fifteenth and eighteenth.

Rope finished with a one under par total of 71 and a stableford score of 44 points.

The runner up was club Vice Captain Glenn Willis (18) with ‘only’ two birdies on his card he could not compete with the winner but finished with a very creditable 40 points. Jonathan Grayson (8) with 37 points won the low section (0-11), Bill Wilson (14) won the mid section (12-17) with 40 points and the high section (18-28) was won by Alfie McKelvie (20) with 38 points.

Rope had the lowest gross score on the day but the gross prize went to Barry Douds (6) with a three over par score of 75.
