Rosborough shines at Prehen clash

THE Lee Hogg Bowl was played for on Saturday at City of Derry, traditionally one of the keenest fought competitions of the year.

At the end of the day the huge entry was topped by John Rosborough (13) with 40 points. John will regale the club later with tales of how things could have been so much better but for an ugly blank at The Widows. But his back nine was still strong enough to beat off Keith Hughes (9) who bested Martin McCormick the same way with both finishing on 40 points.

The gross prize with a credible 72 was taken by Jayson McIntyre. The front nine went to Sammy Holmes with 24 points and Allen Heaney took the back nine with 22 points.

Meanwhile a good turnout on Thursday for the Confined Stableford saw the 'old campaigners' take home the prizes.

Leading the smiles in the clubhouse was Club President Mr Alan Montgomery (20) who 42 points bested Ardmore's Constantine McAllister (22) with a better back six holes. Both men will be pleased that the handicapper has called and cut them a couple of shots apiece!

Dr J Stone (21) found that his 39 points was good enough for third place and Sean Cassidy (11) took fourth prize. Members are reminded that these competitions run right through April and May and times should be booked online at www.cityofderrygolfclub.com to avoid disappointment.
