Ross Trophy up for grabs this Saturday

The winner of the competition was 24 handicapper George Watson with 43 points.

Second spot was decided on a BOT between Paul Duffy (6) and Neal Black (13) to take second place both scoring 41 points with Paul taking second spot with the better back nine.

The winner of the gross prize was one of our junior players Graham Curry with 76 gross, playing off a handicap of 8, the front nine went to Alan McWhirter with 21 points and James O’Connor took the back nine.

This Saturday the club will be hosting The Ronnie Ross Trophy which this year is sponsored by Eakin Bros of Maydown, and on Sunday the monthly medal competition with Richard Godfrey and Andrew Craig leading the way after three cards both with 14 points.

Meanwhile at Foyle Golf Clubs very successful open week came to a conclusion on Saturday, in excess of 800 cards were taken out with large numbers of visitors entering each competition.

The City Hotel competition was claimed by Lee Barlow (23) after he scored 41 points, second after a break of tie finish was Jonathan Quigley (12) after he finished with 39 points and Jack Quigley (8) with 39 points was third.

Gross winner was Paul McGuigan after scoring 36 points and City of Derry’s Rory O’Hara (20) with 35 points claimed the visitors prize. Eamon O’Hagan (24) with 23 points won the back nine and Faughan Valley’s Loren Smallwoods (14) also finished with 23 points to claim the ladies prize The McCartney & Co Accountants’ competition was claimed by Mark McKeone (11) after he finished with 43 points, a BOT finish meant that Paul McDermott (17) with 42 points was second and Joe Bradley (20) also with 47 points was third.

Conor McGurgan with 35 points won the gross prize and Ballyliffin’s Tony Crowley (10) with 40 points won the visitor’s prize. Tony Harkin (13) with 21 points secured the back nine and Myra Gough (20) with 24 points won the ladies section.

The First Trust Bank competition was secured by Gerald Toland (13) after he scored 41 points, Darragh Glynn (7) with 41 points and Maurice Temple (15) was third after a BOT finish when he scored 39 points.

The gross winner was won by Damien McKenna after he scored 38 points, Kyle McCarron (1) with 36 points won the visitors prize and Trevor McKeegan (28) with 21 points won the back nine and Denise Callan (24) with 19 points won the ladies section.

Mark Doherty (18) with 41 points claimed the Adair Gas & Appliances competition and Stephen Moore (13) with 40 points was second and Stephen McCaul (19) with 39 points was third after a BOT finish.

Cormac McGeady with 36 points claimed the gross prize and Caolan Dunn (7) with 21 points won the back nine and Myra Gough (20) with 36 points to claim the ladies prize.

The club competitions continue today (Wednesday) with a club stableford competition, the captain Chris Lynch’s prizes to the ladies competition starts at 11am tomorrow, while the past captain’s trophy, press and sponsors tee off at 1.30pm.

On Friday the captain’s nine hole scramble and putting competition for ladies, gents and juveniles, which has a shotgun start at 6.30pm, before Chris Lynch’s captain’s day takes place on Saturday and the Crumley Construction monthly medal takes centre stage on Sunday.
