Royal Portrush would offer a great first international major says McQuillan

Adrian McQuillan, DUP MLA for East Londonderry, has welcomed the suggestion, made by PGA of America President, Ted Bishop, that Royal Portrush would offer an excellent venue to host the first US PGA Championship outside of the United States.

Speaking at the weekend, Adrian said: “I may be biased, but hosting the US PGA Championship in Royal Portrush in 2020 would be an excellent idea, not only allowing us to show case our golfing talents, such as our very own ‘North Coast’ native Greame McDowell, but showing what Royal Portrush and Northern Ireland has to offer.

“I believe that we could work to see this happen and overcome any concerns over infrastructure. Hosting this Championship would put Northern Ireland on the map and would represent a major investment in itself.

“I therefore wholeheartedly welcome this suggestion and endorse the concept in its entirety. If it is to happen, we must start planning now and bring much needed investment to the area,” he added.
