Ryan steps onto winner’s podium at Raceview

Having been runner-up at Ballymena Golf Club in late November, Ryan Kenny went one better on the final Saturday before Christmas.

He scored a total of 33 points to be declared the winner of the last club sweep at Raceview.

Playing off 11, Ryan scored eight pars, three bogeys, a double bogey on the par four twelfth and a birdie on the fifth as it worth four points alone.

Second place went to Robert Doey who, playing off an eight handicap, scored a total of 32 points.

Robert got his round off to a superb start and was level par gross after seven holes, only to drop a shot apiece at the eighth and ninth.

He then completed the round with a par, par, bogey, birdie finish for a total of two over gross, which converted into a total of 32 stableford points.

Category one was won by Paul Darragh (4), who played the course in one over par gross for 29 points.

Paul’s card read eight pars, three bogeys plus bidrides at the seventh and ninth holes.

Cateory two saw Eddie Gilmore (9) take the spoils when he notched up a total of 32 points.

They came from seven pars, bogeys on the fourth, eighth and tenth, plus a double bogey on teh twelfth.

Eddie also had back-to-back birdies at the sixth and seventh which left him with a round of three over par grossfor his 32 points.

James McClintock (12) took pride of place in category three where he notched up a total of 31 points.

They came via six pars and seven bogeys and a total of 22 points for his first nine holes set him on his way.

Category four resulted in sixteen-handicapper Eugene O’Dornan being the victor, having scored a total of 31 points.

His card showed that he scored seven pars, a bogey on the fourth plus double bogeys on the fifth, eighth, ninth, eleventh and twelfth.

In the best gross category, the club’s lowest handicapper, Dermot McElroy (+3) covered the course in one under gross, 49 shots. This came via six pars, a dropped shot apiece on the first, sixth and tenth but he scored birdies on the third, fourth, ninth and thirteenth to help him to that 49 shot total.

* The club’s Last Man Standing competition was shared by Brian Hazlett Chris Adams and Stephen Ritchie.
