Scores reflect keen competition at Silverwood

It was another great day for golf at Silverwood on Saturday and the scores reflected this, with some very good cards returned.

In first place with 44 points was Mark Hampton, he had a front nine of 25 points that included one birdie, five pars and three bogeys.

His back seven holes had one birdie at the 10th, four pars at the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th, one bogey at the 18th hole and a double bogey for a total of 19 points to win by two clear points.

Second place went to Gerry Canning with 42 points. Gerry had four pars on his front nine at the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th holes and five bogeys at the 3rd 5th, 7th, 8th and 9th holes for 24 points. The back seven saw him record one birdie at the 13th hole, two pars at the 14th and 18th, three bogeys at the 10th, 12th and 15th holes and an ugly double bogey at the 11th hole for 18 points and his total of 42 points.

Third place went to Joe O’Hanlon again with 42 points. Joe had a brilliant 26 points on his front nine with one birdie at the 9th, six pars at the 1st,2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 8th holes and two single bogeys at the 5th and 6th.

His back seven holes had three pars at the 12th, 13th and 15th holes, three bogeys at the 10th, 11th and 14th holes and a costly double bogey at the 18th.

The gross prize was won again this week by Fintan McAreavey with another sub-par round of golf. This time he returned a four under gross score for 36 gross points.

Fintan had six birdies at the 1st, 7th, 9th, 11th, 15th and 18th holes, two bogeys at the 3rd and 4th holes and eight pars at the remaining holes to maintain his dominance at this level of golf.

Fourth place went to club Captain Frank Gallagher with 41 points, Frank had 23 points on his front nine with two birdies, three pars with four single bogeys,

On the back seven holes his card included one birdie at the 13th hole, four pars at the 10th 14th, 15th and 18th and two bogeys at the 11th and 12th holes, for a solid round of golf.

Fifth spot was picked up by Thomas Marley with 41 points, he had 24 points on the front nine with two birdies, three pars, three bogeys and a double bogey at the 2nd hole. His back seven holes added up to another 17 points with one birdie at the 18th hole, two pars at the 12th and 14th, three bogeys and a double bogey at the 11th hole.

The senior prize was won by John McConville with 41 points.
