Scores rocket as the sun shines on Lisburn golfers

The sun shone on Lisburn golf course last Saturday and sent scores rocketing.

Twenty three competitors had 22 points or more over the first nine holes.

Due to overnight frost two temporary greens were in operation. The main greens were in excellent condition.

Four players finished with 24 points: Sep Zwahlen (20), Darren Welsh (12), Stephen Wilkinson (18) and David Reid (8).

A birdie four at the first gave Sep four points. He ran up a six at the second. He followed with five ‘three pointers’ and finished with two points each at eight and nine to win on count-back over the last six holes.

Darren also started with a ‘four pointer’ thanks to a birdie at the first. He finished with three pars for three points each to claim second place on the last three holes.

A birdie three at the third gave Stephen four points. After bogeys at four and five he parred the next three. A five at the ninth proved rather costly.

Six players recorded 23 points: Terry Smith, David Wilson, John Dale, Jim Lockhart, Ivor Walker and Roy Walsh.

Twelve players recorded birdie twos. Nine were scored at the fourth. John Millward, Paul Watters and Norman McNellis were the only competitors to birdie the temporary green at the short sixth.
