Scratch Cup coming to Prehen

A mens 36 hole Scratch Cup will be held at City of Derry on Sunday, July 29.

Two divisions Senior, for handicaps up to and including Five (5) and Junior for handicaps 6-11. Entry will be £10 for members and £20 for visitors. Entries to be made through the Pro-shop or by telephone at (028) 71311496.

While torrential rain in the early hours of Saturday morning caused the postponment of the much anticipated Captain’s prize and a new date of August 4th has been tentatively set. Details will be announced as soon as possible.

On a balmy evening the prelude to Captain’s Day, the scramble took place and a large turnout enjoyed the most pleasant of weather and a course in absolutely impeccable condition a fact reflected in the winning team’s record gross score of 60. No less than eleven birdies went on the card of the team so ably led by Graham Hepburn with Robbie Kennelly, John O’Doherty and Brenda Chauhan in the supporting role. Their nett score was 55.1. Second place went to Dermott Canning, Jim McDaid, Neal King and Mary O’Doherty , their total was 57.7 and the third and final place was taken by the team of Kevin Quigg, Greg Oates, Noel O’Donnell and Matthew Pearson that finished with 58.2 nett.

While last Thursday’s competition was won by Darren Heaney (13) after he scored 40 points, second after a break of tie finish was Peter Deans (27) who finished with 39 points and John Chambers (12) also on 39 points was third. The gross winner was Kealan Quigg (0) after finishing with 34 points
