Scullion sweeps to Moyola win

BY all of three clear points, 10 handicapper Cathal Scullion, right, won the Sunday Sweep Stableford at Moyola Park.

His return was 44 points with Joe McGuckin (24) placed second on 41 points, by a better back nine over Ronnie Doey (22).

There were 12 optional twos winners, each receiving 3 golf balls. On Saturday, Danny Kerr (12), far right, won a similar event with a score of 44 points. This was by a better back nine from Tony McGuire (21), Liam Morgan (12) third 42 points, on last 6 holes, and Colin Gribbin (20) in fourth place. Here, 12 members win three golf balls apiece for their twos entry.

The ladies Spring League will run up to and including Tuesday, March 26. A maximum of eight cards of which six will count,and you can play on any day within the six week period. Names are now being taken for the Coast & Country Alliance dinner which will be at Roe Park Golf Club on Thursday, 21st March. Sign the appropriate sheet. Also, names for the Lady Captain’s Galavant at Nuremore Hotel on Saturday, April 13. Here too, sign the sheet provided.

The ladies Watterson Cup matchplay qualifier is soon to start. Used will be high/low draw in order to match up playing partners. The draw will take place on Wednesday March 20, to run from 1st April.

Saturday and Sunday bring Sweep Stablefords, while Monday continues the Seniors (over 50s) Open Stablefords. A Spring Eclectic Competition will run until Thursday, April 4. You may play a maximum of six cards only during this period. Cards can be played on any day,best score at each hole counts and cards costing £1 each can be purchased in the pro shop and can be played in conjunction with the Sweep. Prizes will be presented at Captains “ Drive In”.

The latter is scheduled for Saturday April 6. There will be teams of four made up of one lady and three gents. You should arrive by 9.30am for a 10am shotgun start. Entry fee here is £9 which includes food. You must pay at the bar and sign the sheet posted.

This Friday, March 15, the Captains “Hooley” takes place. This is a fun night of entertainment by the members for the members. Do not be shy - come along and perform a party piece.Contact Michael Kelly or Gerry Slowey. All proceeds here go in aid of Laurel House Antrim Cancer Unit.

And, the all important 36th annual general meeting will take place in the clubhouse on Monday, March 25, starting 7.30pm. Depending on the Honorary Treasurers election, there will be four positions to be filled. These will be three for three years, and one for one year.
