Shaw shines on final day of Irish Open

A brilliant final round at the Irish Open has earned Lurgan golfer Gareth Shaw his biggest pay cheque since turning pro.

The 27-year-old shot a superb 69 in difficult conditions at Carton House, Dublin to finish in joint fifth place behind tournament winner Paul Casey.

Gareth’s 8 under, six shots behind Casey at the finish, included a stunning eagle at the par 4 13th hole and a birdie on 18 which earned him a top ten finish to assure him a place at the Alstom Open de France at Le Golf National next week which features a world class field.

His reward for four great rounds in Dublin is a cheque for over £50,000, a great achievement in what was his European Tour debut.
