Shaw successful in Moyola stableford

ELEVEN handicapper Aidan Shaw has taken first prize in the Quinn Bros. sponsored Stableford held at Moyola Park Golf Club, Castledawson.

His winning score was 41pts, just ahead of Noel Downey (24) 40pts (on better back nine), with Hilary Armstrong (4) placed third.

Best gross here came from Luke Lennox (-3) with a 71, while the handicap category winners were; 0-9, Jack O’Neill (6) 39pts; 10-13,Danny Kerr (13) 40pts; 14-17, Gerard Loughlin (16) 38pts; 18 plus,Ivor Reid (22) 39pts.Seniors prize – Colm Kelly (21) 39pts.There were 22 optional twos winners, each getting 4 golf balls.

The following day, a Sweep Stableford finished as – 1st,Henry Brown (21) 43pts; 2nd,Jackie Averill (12) 40pts (on better back nine); 3rd,John Quinn (9) 39pts.Best gross – Mark Watters (2) 69.Handicap category 0-9, Kenny Averill (7) 39pts; 10-17,Gary Atkinson (14) 39pts; 18 plus,Gerard Mulligan (24) 38pts.

Two midweek 9 Hole Stablefords brought the following results – 1st, Gary Quinn (10) 19pts ; 2nd,Graeme Clarke (13) 18pts (on last 3 holes); 3rd,Steven Hawe (18) 18pts. And,1st- Mark McElroy (15) 24pts.

Entries are now being taken for the ladies Autumn league competition.To run from 26th September up to, and including, November 13, the team draw will be made on 23rd September.

The entry fee of £8 must be paid when playing first card. You may play a maximum of eight cards of which the best six will count, and you can play on any day within the period. A minimum of five cards must be submitted to qualify for a team prize. Those interested should sign the appropriate sheet.

A Nine Hole Competition is being held on Thursdays. With the exception of any open events that may be held on this day, entry will be £2 per card, available from the pro shop. All cards must be returned to the bar.

A junior prizegiving takes place at 6pm in the clubhouse this Saturday. Sunday brings a Sweep Stableford while Monday continues the Seniors (over 50s) Open Stablefords and also sees the 2nd round match in the Coast & Country Alliance League at Kilrea. Next Wednesday the ladies Autumn League will commence.
