Shirley repeats Norwood’s feat

When Gerry Norwood had a nett 61 in the Brass Putter the previous weekend at Ballycastle Golf Club, few people would have expected to see the same score being achieved again quickly, but this was exactly what Michael Shirley did in the September Medal on Saturday past.

Playing off a handicap of 16, Michael had a fabulous gross of 38 on the back nine to add to his 39 on the front and walk away with first place from Patrick Dixon (12) who had an excellent nett 66. Liam Gallagher (11) who has had a very good year in the prizes, took the Division One honours with a 66, while Ryan Brewster (14) also recorded a 66 to lift the Division Two prize with George Kennedy (17) winning Division Three with a 71. The 1st gross was won by Francis McGinn (3) with a 71, while 2nd gross went to Patrick Dallat Jnr (1) on 73.

The result of the Medal did not affect the overall standings in the Golfer of the Year table so Mel Carleton took the title ahead of Rory Gallagher and Francis og McGinn.

Sundays stableford was in aid of the Causeway Arts Care Charity and David Getty (12) emerged winner on 41 points, with Liam McGarry (16) 2nd on 40 points, the same score being recorded by John Armstrong (10).
