Shortened course is welcomed by the ladies

The ladies really enjoyed the shortened course this week and the scores reflected the fact that they found it that bit easier.

The winner of section one was Olwyn Forrester with 21 pts. Olwyn didn’t have a particularly good summer season this year so it’s good to see her enjoying her winter golf.

A look at Olwyn’s card shows that she had a quiet start to her round but played the last five holes in one over par to put together her winning score.

Section two winner was Priscilla Clayton with 22 pts just beating Jennifer Magowan on the count back. Priscilla had a tidy card and would have been a few points better if it hadn’t of been for a late no score on the 8th hole. Jennifer Magowan looked as if she was on the way into the winners circle but unfortunately had two costly double bogeys in the last three holes but Jennifer’s turn in the prizes couldn’t be too far away.

Section three went to a Fiona Rowan with 22 pts. Fiona has continued her good form from the summer season and the highlight of her round was a two at the 8th.

On the team front all the teams were well represented this week and there was a real tussle for the double points that were up for grabs. Dee Farrell proved to be the captain who marshalled her troops to victory and secured the top points for Poults Princesses. Dee had 22 pts, Priscilla Clayton 22 pts, Grizel Turkington 21 pts and Ursula Dummigan 22 pts. McDowell’s Marvels came in second to narrow the gap on Dubuisson’s Darlins, with the high scorers being May Baxter 21 pts, Geraldine Hickland 21 pts, Anette Kilbinger 20 pts and Roisin Anderson 20 pts.

Moving into the last week of the competition the team captains will have their calculators out to see what is required to topple Sheena’s team or to move into second place, so every shot is going to count as the teams move towards the finishing line.

Bridge reults are as follows:

N/S-1, G Turkington and E O’Neill; 2, M Long and M Hendron;

E/W-1, S O’Neill and M Patterson; 2, A Lamb and F Storey;
