Six under effort from Chris proves too good

Last Saturday the men at Lurgan were taking part for the Professional’s (Peter Hanna) prizes and as a bonus the winner also qualified for the regional round of the Taylormade Championship.

The winner was Chris Donald with a six under effort of 42 points. He was steady through the opening nine and played the back nine much more decisively.

A birdie on the fifth and pars at holes six and eight were his more disciplined efforts on the outward nine. He began the back nine with a par on the tenth. A birdie on the twelfth and a par on the thirteenth followed in close proximity. He concluded his round with a further par on the fifteenth and a birdie on the last. Despite three double bogeys on his card he still emerged a couple of points clear.

Collie Nash Jnr recorded 40 points to be runner-up. Birdies at holes four and nine were prestige scores.

A total of 39 points enabled young Peter Cummins to snatch third place.

Two handicapper Paul McCabrey won the gross prize with a total of 34 points. He dropped strokes on holes two and ten and fell foul of a double bogey on the third. Birdies at fourteen and eighteen reduced some of the deficit. Pars on the rest of the holes took him safely past the winning post. In a competitive low category Gary McCollum emerged victorious with 38 points.

In the middle section Michael Purdy took the spoils with his satisfying return of 38 points.
