Six under round nabs a turkey for Mark

The sixteen holes in play have a par of 64 and Mark reduced this to 58. After birdying the two opening holes he gave a shot back with a four at the short third before registering a couple of pars. The birdie trail started again at the sixth with a two and the long seventh gave up another to a four.

The front eight finished with a single point for a bogey five and eighteen points had been carded. Mark was two under par at this point and better was coming. Three par fours started the back eight and these were followed by a birdie two at twelve, a birdie four at thirteen and to cap it came an eagle at the fourteenth! Two pars to finish and 21 points were added to give Mark his 39 and the top turkey.

Keith Johnston hit the same score as Mark but he reversed the eight hole scores to 21 out and 18 back to lose out on countback, still, a turkey was the result. The seven handicapper opened his day with two pars and two bogeys before rattling in a birdie three at the long par four fifth for four points. Another four points came with an eagle three at the seventh to help Keith hit the 21 mark at halftime.

A couple of single pointers found their way onto the card but these were tempered by a two at the twelfth and a birdie four at fourteen, all this gave up 18 points for inward half and the resulting 39 points was two better than Richard Clarke’s 37. His steady front eight was blunted by a no score appearing at the fourth, limiting the points haul to 17.

Richard’s back eight was more productive with no blanks and a fair number of good pars to let him add in another 20 to fend off the challenge of Robin Walker on countback. Robin scored at every hole and had just one single pointer in each eight. His birdie four at thirteen was the highlight and kept him in the turkey grab.

The third 37 of the day came from David Lamont, fresh from his cup win last Sunday. Playing off twelve David’s first dropped shot came at the fourth with a six and another shot was lost with his four at the short sixth. These were the only shots lost in a front eight which gave him 20 points. While his back eight score of 17 was still better than his handicap would suggest it wasn’t quite the match for the front half.

David’s 37 kept him one point up on Denis Delargy on 36. His card was similar to David’s in that 20 points were scored over the first eight holes in a steady fashion. The back eight was just a little more untidy with just one point being scored at the thirteenth and this limited the points for the eight to 16. This gave Denis the final bird of the day.
