Sponsor ray bags an ace at Rathmore

Ray Gault, recovering well from his recent Captaincy of Rathmore GC, hit a hole in one at the third hole on Sunday.

As a co-sponsor of the Winter League, under the title of Bush Training and Tours, he was surely one of the most popular men in the bar later. Other sponsors are the Cub President Eddie Mason and the Royal Court Hotel and their contributions are well appreciated by the participants. There are more and they will be thanked properly over the next couple of weeks.

In the competition itself it was Colm Friel who took the top billing scoring 39 points off eleven. He finished the front nine two over par for 22 points. Only six of the inward nine are in play for the winter and Colm played these in one under par, courtesy of his birdie three at seventeen, to slip another sixteen points onto his card for 38.

Second place was occupied by Donal McNicholl, a ten handicapper, with 37 points. Donal also had 22 points out for his one over par front nine. Finishing for the grandstand with two birdies allowed him to sign for a further 15 to secure second spot outright as the next scores were three 36s. The best of these came from Andrew Porter. Birdying five, eight and nine helped Andrew to 23 points out but proved to be the last of the birdies for him.

Two bogies over the closing six saw just 13 points gained. Ian Pritchard and Adrian Proctor were fourth and fifth on their 36s. Both had birdies in each of half, Ian with fours at the long fourth and tenth and Adrian had a three at five and a two at eleven.
