Steady golfer John leads way

It was the final week of the Christmas turkeys and hams at Silverwood Golf Club and it was fitting that one of them was collected by the individual winner of the winter league John Marley.

John has been playing steady golf over the first half of the winner league and finished with 255 points, two points ahead of Eugene McKeever with 253 points and third placed Kieran Murray with 249 points.

On Saturday John had 33 points, with four bogeys on his card at the 2nd, 6th, 9th and 18th holes with the remaining holes played in par for another steady round by this consistent player.

In second place in the low section was Eamon Magill again with 33 points. He had 20 points on his front nine with one birdie at the first hole, three pars, and five bogeys, and 13 points on the back seven with two pars at the 11th and 18th holes and five bogeys.

In third place was Jim Doran with 32 points. He had 18 points on his front nine and 14 points on the back seven, with two birdies at the 4th and 18th holes, six pars, seven bogeys, and one double bogey.

In the middle section first place went to Albert Porter with 38 points. He had 21 points on his front nine and 17 on the back seven including one birdie, eight pars, five bogeys, and two double bogeys.

In second place was Alan Johnston with 37 points, he had one birdie at the 11th hole, eight pars, six bogeys and one double bogey on his card.

Third was Joe Ó’Hanlon with 35 points, he had 19 points on the front nine and 16 on the back seven with a mixture of pars and bogey and one no-score.

In the high section first place went to Paul Johnston with the best score of the day 41 points.

He returned 23 points on his front nine with five pars, three bogeys and one double bogey at the 5th and 18th pts on the back seven holes, with three bogeys, two pars, one double bogey and finishing with a birdie at the last hole.

In second place was Paul Marner with 36 pts, he had 21 pts on his front nine, and 15 pts on his back seven holes, with five pars, ten bogeys, and one double bogey.

In third place with 35 pts was Thomas Marley, he had five pars at the 4th, 7th, 11th, 13th and 18th holes and ten bogeys.

The gross prize was won by the player of the year Fintan McAreavey with a level par round of golf. He had four birdies, eight pars and four bogeys on his card.

The winners of the winter league were the Thumpers with 761 pts the team included F. Headley, F Stevenson, E McConaghy and J Magee.

Second The Club Throwers M Jordan, D Jordan, K Munster, E Mc Keever 756pts.Third The Goats D Skelton, S Skelton, D McDowell, P Mulholland 746pts

The Thumpers won on the last day with 113 to beat the leaders from day one the Club Throwers with 106.
