Steady round is rewarded

It was a stroke competition at Silverwood on Saturday and the course was in fine condition with fast greens and a strong wind to make the players think about club selection.

The winner with a nett 66 was Conal Kerr, he had a steady front nine with only three bogey and one birdie with the remaining holes played in par for a 37 front nine. Conal’s back nine was even better coming home in 38 shots which contained one double bogey, two bogeys, three pars, three birdies for a strong finish to lift the prize by one shot and a welcome return to form.

In second place was Mark Hampton with a nett 67. Mark went around the front nine in 41 with four pars, four bogeys and one double bogey. His back nine of 44 included one birdie, two pars, three bogeys, one double bogey and two triple bogeys for his total of 88 nett 67.

In third place was Peter McCabe with a net 68. Peter went around the front nine in 40 shots with one birdie at the first hole, two pars with the remaining holes played in one over par, his back nine was much more solid with five pars, one birdie and three bogeys for his nett 68.

The gross prize was won by 3 handicapper Fintan McAreavey with a 3 over 75. Fintan had a front nine of 38 with one birdie, five pars, two bogeys, one double bogey. His back nine was a model of consistency with nine straight pars for a back nine of 37 and total of 75.

In fourth place was Eamon McConaghy with a nett 68. He had a front nine of 40 which included one birdie, three pars, four bogeys and one double bogey. His back nine of 41 contained five pars with the remaining holes played in one over par.

Fifth place went to John Blacker with a nett 68. John had a front nine of 44 with the highlights being a birdie and two pars, his back nine of 46 included one par, one double bogey with the remaining holes played in one over par.

The senior prize was won by Frank Gallagher with a nett 68
