While the course couldn’t boast the same amount of colour as Augusta National it is definitely beginning to take shape and Maeve Cummins made the most of the conditions to record a score worthy of the Easter Trophy when she shot two over par 73 to give her 41 points.

Maeve had a steady start and was 2 over after 7 holes but it was when she played the next 5 holes in two under par to bring her back to level, that her round promised to be something special.

She finished the last six holes in two over to ensure her name would go on the trophy. A great score for Maeve and she is certainly showing that her practice in the winter has paid off and all the signs are that there is a great season ahead of her.

With Maeve taking the nett prize the gross was a tightly contested affair between Bronagh McKavanagh and Cara Murphy.

Cara had a lovely card for the first 12 holes but she just let it slip on the last six to allow Bronagh to sneak in and beat her on the count back.

It’s great to see Bronagh maintain the form she showed in her Junior Cup golf last year and she had some lovely runs of pars on her card on Tuesday to take her first gross of the year.

Just one shot back were Lynne Hanna and Christine Hagan so good golf played by them all.

Section one went to last year’s lady president Diana McClelland with 35 points. On the front nine the two par threes were Diana’s downfall but she had a great back nine the highlights of which were her two on the 12th and her par on the 17th so that will have been some consolation for the costly par 3’s on the front.

Section two went to Debbie McCollum with 37 points. Debbie was a winner in her last outing so she is enjoying a good run of form and her card shows that consistency would appear to be the key to her success as she had no real disasters in her round.

Section three went to one of our rising stars Liz Denver with 38 points. Liz is enjoying her recent introduction to golf and all indications are that her handicap will come tumbling down when the competitions start to qualify for handicap reductions but it is great to see our new members doing so well and figuring in the prizes.

In addition to Diana the other twos winners were Jennifer Magowan, Anette Kilbinger, Maeve and Fiona Cummins so a wee Easter bonus for these ladies.
