Stephen earns first victory in ‘The Topping’ since 2005

Stephen Crowe dramatically arrested the impressive record of older brother Darren in this year’s Senior Topping Scratch Cup at Dunmurry Golf Club.

Darren’s imposing four year reign as champion ended as Stephen’s superb rounds of 67 and 68 sealed his first victory in “The Topping” since 2005. In second place, with rounds of 67 and 75, was the redoubtable Glenn McAuley.

In the Topping Junior Scratch Cup Thomas Gracey returned solid rounds of 75 and 76 to capture the title from the experienced Colin Mills.

Stableford Sweep: On Saturday, 26th September the Stableford Sweep competition was won by nineteen handicapper Ciaran Hamill with 42 pts the highlight of his round being two birdies at the 7th and 14th holes.

Second place went to Dessie Houston (17) who returned 41 points thanks to 22 points on the back nine which included a birdie three at the 14th.

Ward Orr (8) who went round in 75 shots for 39 points had to settle for third spot edging out Chris McQuay (7) on the better back nine. Mervyn Waterworth (18() was fifth with 38 pts.

The gross prize was won by Paddy McGlone won went round in one under par 69. His round included an eagle three at the par five 4th and birdies at the 5th, 7th, 8th and 13th holes.

Irish PGA: On 21st September Dunmurry’s Secretary Manager, Michael Stanford, qualified for the televised stages of the Irish PGA with a stunning level par round at Dundalk Golf Club. All at Dunmurry wish him every success at the tournament which will be played at Dundalk from 1st-4th October.

Winter League: The draw for the Winter League is now available on the Club Noticeboard. To facilitate the playing of The Bradbury Cup at Lisburn GC on Saturday 3rd October, the Winter League will commence on Saturday 10th October. A Saturday Sweep will be played at Dunmurry on October 3rd. Bradbury Cup: This annual competition will be played at Lisburn, with a Shotgun Start at 9am.
