Stephen is successful in Winter League opener

Stephen Shaw had the best score in the first round of the Lisburn Winter League last Saturday.

In damp conditions he opened with five pars. The hole at the short sixth was cut at the narrowest point of the green right at the front and just over the water.

Stephen’s eight iron shot finished close to the flag and the resulting birdie two put him one under par.

After a solid par four at the seventh he almost reached the par five eighth in two and pitched close for his second birdie. A par four at the ninth gave him a front nine of 34 and 21 points.

Better

He tied with Rodney Osborne but his better finish gave him top place in Division 1. Gregory Law was third on 19 points.

Martin McDonald won Division 2 with 21 points. Eddie Rowan was second on 20 with Ricky Neill third on 19.

It also required 21 points to win Division 3. John Patterson was first with Tommy Johnston second on 17 and Billy Lutton third on 16.

Result of Pro Sweep played on Saturday 28th December.

1st Colin Todd 25 pts, 2nd Michael McCaughan 24 pts, 3rd Ian Shane 23 pts.

Michael McCaughan had birdie twos at the 4th and 6th holes.
