Stephen is the winner at Down Royal

Saturday June 29 saw Captain Michael Magennis host his Major Day at Down Royal Golf Course.

With the weather being dull there was still a brilliant turn out from the members of the club and also visitors to support Michael on his day.

With play starting early, it was Michael and the green keeper who selected the tight pin positions to try and challenge all the players involved, but this did not stop the high scoring.

Being one of the early starters it was Stephen Moore who posted the score for everyone to chase, and as word got round the course as to what players had to score to win the main prize, the pressure was on to hit that perfect drive to the fairway or make that crucial putt on the back nine.

Major

Fortunately for Stephen, nobody else could catch him, but a few players came very close to the 43 points that he posted and secured the 1st place to win the major prize of the day.

Jim Murphy who shot a three over par 75 and 42 points won gross as well as second place, followed by Andy Boyd who also had 42 points but was beaten on the count back to end in third place, and Eugene Hunter with 41 points got the fourth place position.

There were also prizes for best front nine and best back nine, which were won by Martin McAuley (24 points) and John Flynn (21 points) respectively and the new member’s prize went to Ed Patterson with 32 points.
