Still all to play for at Foyle as 12 teams vie for honours

WITH nine cards returned in the Brickkiln Spring league at Foyle Team 16 of John McDowell, Paddy Coyle, David Knox and Stuart Gauld having amassed 603 points for their six best cards hold a slender two point lead.

In second spot is Team 6 of Liam McCafferty, Paul McIntyre, Jarlath Clarke and Richard Burton have scored 601 points, third are Team 2 of Maurice Temple, Jim McGrotty, John Logue and John Coyle who have amassed 595 points.

Team 15 of Alan Manning, Shaun Bradley, Richard McRory and Thomas Duddy have scored 592 points and also on 592 points are Team 3 of Damien McColgan, Cormac McGeady, Martin Kivelehan and Kevin McDaid.

In fifth spot are Team 1 of Colm Norris, Danny McCay, Gavin McDonnell and Damien Kivelehan who have scored 590 points.

With still one card to return it is a very close call for the top eight qualifying places for the Match play as at least 12 Teams still have a realistic chance of getting there.

In the Easter Egg competitions Stuart Gauld (11) with 25 points claimed the category 0-11 section, the 12-17 category went to Paul McLaughlin (12) after he too scored 25 points and also on 25 points was category 18+ winner Paul McEleney (19).

On a crisp but windy Spring morning at the Ballyarnett Road venue, 15 handicapper Ciaran Bradley took the honours with 43 points. In second place with 42 points was Emmett McNally (14) who relegated the ultra consistent Jarlath Clarke to third place following a break of tie.

In the 'Golfer of Year' competition, Emmett McNally holds a commanding eight points lead over Paul McEleney.

Meanwhile, in the Guinness-Foyle Societies competition played at Foyle, the Sunday Society 'A' and 'B' teams have both progressed to the quarter-final stages.

Next outing will take place this Sunday, April 4th with the first tee booked between 9am and 10am.

On Saturday, another Easter Hamper competition will be staged and re-entry permitted in hamper competitions.

While Foyle Golf Club Membership fees are now due and must be payed before April 1st to enable Members to compete for Prizes in Club Competitions. Optional insurance is also due with the last date for payment April 30th.

Meanwhile Foyle Ladies 18 hole competitions have got of to a great start with terrific scores being returned by the ladies.

Christine McCafferty (34) with 42 points won the March 18 competition, second was Lorna Thompson (20) after scored 38 points and Margaret Killen (21) with 36 points was third.

Anne Hamilton (15) with 40 points won the March 25th competition; second after a break of tie finish was Gaye Shaw (36) 37 points and third spot went to Denise Callan (22) who also finished with 37 points.
