Sunday Society continues to prosper at Prehen

UNDER Eamon McCourt's able captaincy the Sunday Society at City of Derry continues to go from strength to strength.

On Sunday Robert Glackin (10) will be pleased to see that his 37 point tally was just enough to top the field. Peter Cassidy (13) fought all the way home for a very steady 36 points which gets him second prize.

Hard working competitions' team member, Michael Carroll (15), will rue the ugly seven he took at Daly's which restricted him to a 35 points total and third place.

Clive Brolly (13) had a fine front nine holes but tired a little over the closing holes to finish on 35 points, beaten into fourth place on break of tie. Paul Glackin (7) fought his way to fifth place behind brother Robert. The sibling rivalry is hotting up already.

Kevin Green (19) landed sixth place with 34 points. In other news past captain and honorary secretary Eddie Leonard (14) was a very happy man as he walked off The Quarry on Sunday. A hole in one there ensures him of a Sunday Society prize.

While it was a welcome return to competition for City of Derry members on Saturday, after the enforced lay off because of the recent snow and frost.

Anybody who can explain to the competition convenor why weekday are snow free but weekend competition days are snow zones should apply for their free pint at the City of Derry Golf Club bar. Still it was nice to see the course green again instead of white and the car park packed to the gunnels.

New member Gavin Moren (17) obviously made the most use of the enforced layoff with a series of lesson from resident professional, Sammy Smallwoods, because he tamed the course with a fine 38 points. David Smyth (16) found his form with a fine 22 points on the front nine but his final tally of 38 was relegated into second place on break of tie over the back nine. G Cleary (17) landed the third place prize.

Confined Saturday competition will continue through out February and March.
