Sunshine inspires the ladies

Glorious sunshine on Tuesday enticed 51 ladies out for the first competition of the season.

The sun brought out the best in Fiona Rowan who won the 9 hole competition with 21 points. Fiona has been showing good form throughout the winter and was runner up in the Christmas competition.

Fiona will definitely be one to watch in the coming months and she can look forward to seeing her handicap tumble.

In a blast from the past Bronagh McKavanagh made the most of the absence of the low girls to take the gross prize. Hopefully Bronagh will get a liking for winning gross prizes again and will give the girls a run for their money as the season progresses although when the girls can get out of school to play they might have other ideas.

May Baxter made a welcome return to full fitness and she took the section one prize with 20 points.

Section two went to Kathy Matchett with 20 points. Kathy is another lady who featured heavily in the prizes during the winter season and it’s great to see this good form continue as the summer competitions take off.

The lucky lady in section three was the last player to tee off in Ursula Dummigan. Ursula is relatively new in the ladies section and she had a very tidy card with her two pars at the par 5’s making her score.

Ursula was playing with her sister Eithne and they would appear to have been matching each other shot for shot until the 7th when Eithne failed to score and Ursula sneaked ahead.

Two other ladies who broke par, but just missed out on a prize, were Roisin Anderson and Pat Carville both with 19 pts.

The competition was sponsored by committee member, and minute secretary, Pat Carville so a big thanks to Pat for her generosity. Overall the ladies all had a thoroughly enjoyable first day out and hopefully the weather today bodes well for the season ahead.
