Superb Captain’s Day at Lisburn

With nearly 320 competitors the Lisburn Captain’s prize had to be played over two days.

The sunny weather on Friday was in stark contrast to the showers and strong wind on Saturday. This was reflected in the CSS going up by two strokes.

Joe Davy (26) took advantage of the better weather and played very steady golf to win with 42points.

Neil Thompson (21) snatched second place with a magnificent birdie two at the final hole for 40 points. Glen Waring (12) had a ‘ding’ at 11 but a four at 18 meant he lost out on count back.

Barry McQuillan (18) was fourth with 39 points.

Chris Moulds finished with a bogey four for a round of 73 but held on to win the gross prize by one stroke from Ryan Symington.

Chris Warwick got off to an unbelievable start with 12 strokes for the first nine holes of the putting competition. Jonny Grant hit a ball 343 yards off the 10th tee to win the prize for the longest drive. Some players were delighted to get that far in two strokes.

In the Monday Stableford Ryan Symington had his best ever round at Lisburn covering the 18 holes in 66 strokes. He started with an eagle three and had birdie twos at the 4th and 6th. He had birdies at the two par fives on the back nine to come home in 34. Lisburn captain Sam Moore had every chance to win but finished with two double bogeys to lose out on count back. Michael Maxwell was third with 40 pts.

The multi instrumentalist Alan Crawford entertained members during the meal which preceded the prize giving. The captain thanked Albert and Jane and the competitions committee for their help in organising the event.

He congratulated Robert Nelson and his staff for the excellent condition of the course. The winner thanked the captain for the excellent prizes. The evening ended with John and Paul, the Beatles tribute band.

Wednesday Stableford 1st Robert Hamilton 43pts, 2nd Ian Suffern 42pts, 3rd Alan Faloon 41pts.
