Shane got off to the perfect start with a birdie at the first hole but this was shortlived as he managed to drop shots over the next three holes. He then steadied the ship and went on to par the next five holes and reach the turn in 38.

The back nine proved a little more difficult but nevertheless he managed to record pars at tenth, twelfth, fourteenth and sixteenth holes to come home in 43 strokes for a gross 81. His nett 65 on the day was just too hard to surpass and presented him with a well-deserved Medal win.

Second place went to Eamon Doherty (15) with his return of nett 66. Eamon had just two pars on the front nine and must have thought his chances of being in the prizes were slim when he reached the turn in 42 strokes.

His fortunes appeared to have turned on the back nine as he rattled in seven pars in a row before dropping shots at the last two holes to come home in 39 strokes for a gross 81 and claim second place on a countback.

Third place went to Michael Haughian (10) with his nett 66. Michael played some very steady golf and was just four over par for his round. Six pars and a birdie on the front nine saw him go out in 36 strokes. On the back nine he managed to extract another four pars and a birdie to come home in 40 strokes for a gross 76.

The gross prize went to Brendan Gorman (4) with his excellent round of one under par gross 71. Four pars and three birdies helped him to a complete the front nine in 34 strokes, one under par. He went on to complete the back nine in level par 37 with the help of another seven pars and a birdie.

David Mason (17) also recorded a nett 66 to claim fourth place. During the course of his round he recorded eight pars and a birdie, which helped him to a gross 83.

Eamon McConaghy (14) took fifth and final place also with nett 66. This was another fine round of golf on the day with Eamon going out in 37 and coming home in 43 strokes for a gross 80. This finish also boosts his chances of winning Player of the Year by putting him a few points clear at the top of that leaderboard.

Billy Sterrett (22) won the seniors’ prize with a nett 67.
