Ballyclare had to beat Spa and then Malone to reach the same stage and there waiting for them was Banbridge.

The match was played over two legs last Friday and Saturday.

The first leg on Friday was played at Banbridge and team captain, Connor Doran, was hoping for at least a 5-2 win. That’s easier said than done.

Colin Wilton got a half match against Adam Lesley. Colin wasn’t happy, as he was dormie two up. Jim Carvill lost 2 and 1 against Scott Campbell. This was not the start Banbridge wanted.

Rory Leonard beat Colin Jenkins 5 and 4.

Josh Lockhart recovered from 4 down after 5 holes to get a half against Simon McConnell. Connor Doran beat Neil McClintock 6 and 5. Rory Madeley beat Alan Lilley 3 and 2.

Stephan Greenberg lost by one hole to Johnny Heslip.

Banbridge won the first leg 4-3. Was that good enough? The experts would say not.

The second leg on Saturday was played at Ballyclare and Banbridge needed all their key players to be in top form.

Connor put his four best players out first and they delivered in some style.

Connor led from the front and he beat Adam Lesley 2 and 1. Rory Leonard beat Johnny Heslip 5 and 4.

Jim Carvill got his revenge on Scott Campbell, beating him 7 and 6. Colin Wilton beat Alan Lilley 2 and 1.

Connor’s plan had worked a treat. His team had won the first four games and that was it all over. Barry Tumilty, Conor Mulholland and Stefan Greenberg were called in and they did not mind one little bit.

That puts Banbridge into the quarterfinals of the B. and D. The excitement is beginning to build.
