Despite the underfoot conditions, the scoring was of a high standard with the sixth nett prize being won with 41 points.

The winner was Thomas Surgenor who, playing off a handicap of 15, returned an overall total of 44 stableford points and only by the fact he had a better second nine total of 22 points.

Thomas had equal nines of 22 points with the front nine producing six pars plus dropped shots on the second, fifth and ninth, whereas the back nine yielded five pars plus dropped shots at 10, 12, 16 and 17.

Runner-up was Erwin Redmond (21) who also returned 44 points, of which 23 came on the first nine.

His second nine was made up of three pars, two double bogeys and for single bogeys for a further 21 points.

Third nett was won by Trevor Hamill (11) with 41 points and the back nine was the deciding factor in the next four placings.

Trevor scored 14 points over the last six holes to push Michael Smyth (5) into fourth nett, also with 41 points, and on a better second nine from Frank O’Boyle.

Michael scored 19 points on his first nine before playing the second nine in one under par gross, which included birdies at the 12th and 13th, to complete a level par round.

O’Boyle (15) scored 21 points on the opening nine, helped by a birdie at the fifth, while his second nine of six bogeys and three pars yielded a further 20 points, which was enough to push Maurice Harkin into sixth nett.

Harkin (20) had a superb opening nine of four pars and five bogeys for 23 points but he couldn’t sustain that form on the homeward trip, which included two double bogeys and a triple bogey at 12.

Gary Black (1) kept up his fine run of form by winning best gross prize with a level par round of 68 shots.
