Team 14 are favourites at Foyle

THE Qualifying stage of the Pitchers Restaurant Spring League at Foyle has come to a conclusion and after the very competitive qualifying stage of the league, Team 14 of Joe Doran, Matt Donnell, Ciaran O’Hagan and Leo Young having accumulated 594 points finish as leading qualifiers with an eleven point cushion over the rest of the field.

They will enter the match play as clear favorites to take the coveted title but their is another seven very good teams also looking to go all the way including Team 11 Mark Doherty, Ciaran O’Doherty, Dermott Harkin and Jim Mc Fadden who finished second in the qualifying and are hoping to add the Spring League title to their Winter League crown for a unique double.

The draw for the Match Play is as follows: Quarter Final played by Sunday, April 7 (A) Team 14 v Team 24; (B) Team 13 v Team 7; (C) Team 15 v Team 21; (D) Team 11 V Team 3. semi-final played by Sunday, April 21 - A v B; & C v D; while the final is to be played, April 30th.

Foyle Sunday Society Skipper Mr Sean Sands held his Captains Day on Sunday past and the excellent turnout had to contend with stiff breeze on a cold day but the inform Kieran Bradley (13) made light of the conditions to post an excellent winning score of 43 points to take the much coveted title.

Foyle Sunday Society Members are reminded that the Away Day will be on Sunday, April 14, at the Old Tom Morris Course Rossapenna cost of the trip will be 40 Euros and includes golf, bus and a meal and all those playing are asked to enter their names on the sheet provided in the Golf Shop.

The Easter Hamper competition on Wednesday, March 27 was won by John Logue (17) after he scored 42 points, second after a break of tie finish was Damian McColgan (13) with 40 points and third also on 40 points was Joe Bradley (20).

Saturday’s competition went to Eamon O’Kane (19) after he scored 42 points, second was Mark Doherty (21) who scored 40 points and Anthony McMonagle (16) with 40 points was third.

Today (Wednesday), the Crumley Construction Monthly Medal takes centre stage, on Saturday the Ulster Branch Centenary Pairs Qualifier is down for decision, while the Crumley Construction Monthly Medal competition is up for grabs on Sunday.

Meanwhile City of Derry Golf Club Thursday Society Week 19 went to Cecil Thompson (13) after he scored 39 points, second was Jack McFarland (19) after he scored 38 points and Tony McCann (12) with 36 points was third.

The Golfer of the Year with one outing remaining is currently lead by Ricky Porter who has 178 points, second is Davy Godfrey on 165 points and Fred Young with 157 points is third.

Forthcoming Fixtures at Prehen are as follows: Skippers Day - Thursday, April 4; Ted Pope Trophy - Thursday, April 18.

While the Easter Hamper competition on Saturday, March 30 was won by Noel O’Connell Jnr. (15) after he scored 41 points, second was Kealan Quigg (19) after he scored 40 points and Eddie Burton (5) with 39 points was third.

The Sunday Society Captains Day will now take place on Sunday, April 14.
