Team 24 leadthe way at Foyle

WITH the second cards returned in the Pitchers Restaurant Spring League at Foyle Team 24 Robert Ewing, Declan Ryan, David Wilson and Brendan Gallagher consolidated their lead with another good score of 94 points for a combined total of 191 points for their two cards and a five point lead over Teams 15, 11 and 7 who have accumulated 186 points with the leading pack in close contention.

The Easter Egg competitions were claimed by John Morrison and Ian McGowan, while Foyle Sunday Society had another good turnout at the weekend with the competitors having to contend with poor playing conditions, with strong winds and heavy showers it made scoring difficult but the inform Gary Jackson (11) made light of the conditions to post an excellent 43 points and after having a three point deduction for his previous podium finishes winning with 40 points, with a three way 37 points break of tie deciding the minor placings with Anthony McMonagle (16) finishing second and Cormac McGeady (4) third.

The Pitchers Restaurant Spring League and Easter Egg competitions continues daily, while the Foyle Sunday Sunday continues at the weekend.

Meanwhile the Club Stableford competition at City of Derry went to Robin McClay (12) after he scored 23 points, second after a break of tie was Cecil Thompson (9) after he scored 32 points and Malachy Armstrong (19) was third also on 32 points.

While Edgar Walker (28) had a comfortable three shot margin over the chasing pack with his finely compiled 34 points in the weekly Thursday Society outing at Prehen.

Despite his finishing with no less than three double bogeys his game over the preceding holes has earned him his first victory in quite some time. And his handicap may require some adjustment but that will be decided by the Society’s supremo Eamonn McCourt. Second place went to a past winner Paul McIntyre (17) an impressive birdie three at the long 17th doing his cause no harm.

As a former winner his 32 points total was reduced by one point and that left him getting the verdict over third placed Davy Godfrey (24), also on 31 points who in turn was best of two other players on the same score.
