Team Seven lead the way

AT the half way stage in the Pitchers Restaurant Spring League at Foyle four points separate the leading four teams.

Team 7 of Cormac McGeady, Damien McColgan, Eddie McKeever and Andrew McKeever having accumulated 473 points for their five cards lead by a point from Team 11 of Mark Doherty, Ciaran O’Doherty, Dermott Harkin and Jim McFadden and with five cards still to play all of the entry are still in with a more than realistic chance of reaching the top eight places on offer in the match play, this makes for a very competitive second half of the qualifying in the league.

Currently in third spot on 470 points is Team 15 of Kieran Bradley, Martin Loughrey, Steve Moore and Joe Bradley and on 469 points is Team 17 of Gerald Conaty, Darren McCarron, Gary Loughran and Adrian Brown.

The Easter Egg competitions went to Martin Loughrey, Damien McColgan and Mark Doherty.

Foyle Sunday Society had another excellent entry at the weekend and after the early frost had lifted the competitors enjoying a fine day with Anthony McMonagle (16) on 45 points finishing the clear winner by thee points for back to back victories.

Immediate past Club Captain Edde Ball (21) having being released from the duties of high office produced a fine 42 points to finish in second place followed in third by Neill Cooke (12) on 41 points.

With 14 rounds played and 11 scores counting to date in the highly competitive Foyle Sunday Society Golfer of the Year the ever consistent Hugh Doherty holds a five point lead in his quest for the prestigious title.

Doherty currently has 426 points, second is Cormac McGeady who has 421 points and Declan McKinney with 417 points sit in third spot at the minute, also high flying is trio Gary Jackson, Gary McElroy and Paul McEleney.

Foyle Golf Club held their 19th Annual General Meeting recently with an excellent turnout for the meeting, outgoing Captain Mr Eddie Ball said he had a very enjoyable year and it was a great honor having represented the Club as Captain when they secured a Pierce Purcell Bronze medal at the All Ireland Finals in Kinsale.

After thanking Team Captain’s Jackie Thomas, Kevin Dunn and the team he wished the incoming Captain Mr George Fitzpatrick an enjoyable and successful year and presented him with his Captains Blazer George comes in as the leading official having a wealth of experience as this will be his second term as Captain of Foyle having held the post in 1997 in his opening address he said he was looking forward to the challenge of leading this progressive Club and building on the wonderful work carried out by previous Captains, saying when he held the position previously it was a Club in transition with a small Membership now we have two Ulster G.U.I Pendants and large and increasing Membership after a short 19 year history.
