Temporary greens are required at Lisburn

DUE to heavy rain followed by frost on Friday night, head green keeper Robert Nelson was forced to use temporary greens on the back nine for Saturday’s competition. The shortened course produced some high scores with many competitors exceeding 20 points.

A par, par finish made David Megrath (22) top scorer at Lisburn with 24 points. He had two points to spare over Jim Lockhart (28) and Albert Gregg (25) with Jim’s better finish giving him second place in Section 3.

Philip Sanaghan (16) edged out Mervyn Hewitt (18) on count back to win Section 2 with David Gardiner (15) third.

Martin Lilley (7) topped Section 1 with 22 points, beating Gavin Hewitt (13) on count back with David Mercer (13) third.

Jim Bell and Brian Patterson had a one hole victory over Martin McDonald and Michael Rooney in the Winter League to reach the final. Their opponents will be Mervyn Hewitt and Mervyn Law who beat Kevin Smyth and Jim Simmons.

Wednesday Sweep: 1st Gary Hanna 24 pts, 2nd Tom Beattie 23 pts. Sunday Winter League 1st, Stephan Szymura 24 pts 2nd, Keith McCrum 24pts, 3rd Philip Grimason. Closest to flag at 4th Brian Houston, Closest to flag at 6th Randal Kernaghan.
