The Morelli’s Rab Hamilton Cup event aids Tinylife Charity

His generosity coupled with the efforts of the participants meant that a donation of £500 could be made to the TinyLife charity.

TinyLife is Northern Ireland’s only Premature Baby Charity. Last year 24,500 babies were born in Northern Ireland and 1,805 of those babies were premature. It is a sad fact that Northern Ireland has on average 2 still births each week. Premature babies are born as early as 24 weeks and can weigh as little as 1 lb. It is difficult to comprehend how small this is - a gent’s wedding ring will fit over the arm and up to the shoulder of one of these fragile babies. They will spend approximately 12-16 weeks of their life in neo-natal care. The research undertaken by TinyLife (formerly NIMBA) over the last 21 years has been instrumental in saving the lives of thousands of babies world wide.

TinyLife, in association with Queen’s University Belfast, is currently undertaking ground breaking research. The aim of the study is to understand men’s experiences of fathering infants admitted to a neo-natal intensive care unit.

Back to the golf; it was Ciaran Cahoon that won the Morelli’s Rab Hamilton Cup, I believe at his first attempt! The big lad scored 40 points over the sixteen holes in play off his twelve handicap to secure victory by three points from Norman Grills on 37. Other prizes went to Gary Todd, Cathal Carr and Kevin McMullan. After much debate it was found to be impossible to refuse David Avery the gross prize for his score of 71, yes, the best gross prize went to David Avery!

In the Ladies competition, played on the Riverside Course it was Susan Anderson who came out on top, after countback, easing Heather Rainey into second spot both having scored 38 points. Sheelagh Duffy came third on 37 points.
