Third time winner Damien stakes claim on front nineto claim Hugh Wilson Shield

This week’s competition at the Silverwood Golf Club was the Hugh Wilson Shield played with firm fairways and good greens and the winner of the competition for the third time was Damien McCluskey with 45 points.

Damien had an excellent front nine of 24 points with only two bogeys on the 2 and 3, one birdie at 9 and all remaining holes played in par for a one over front nine. His back nine of 21 points included one birdie on the 10, 2 bogeys and a double bogey with the remaining holes played in par.

In second place with an excellent round of 42 points and best round of the day was Chris Watt with a gross 67, five under par just one shot off the course record held by Michael Molloy. Chris had an excellent front nine of 2 under gross with his only bogey on the 9, 3 birdies and the remaining holes played on par. His back nine included a brilliant eagle on the 18th hole with birdies on 15 and 17 and his only blemish was a bogey on 16 and the remaining holes again played in par for a fantastic round.

Third prize went to James Nelson with 42 points. James had 20 points on the front nine with 3 pars, one no score and the remaining holes played at one over par. His back nine of 22 points included 4 and 4 single bogeys and a double bogey for his total of 42 points.

The gross prize was won by Kevin Munster with a one over 73 gross. Kevin went round the front nine in one over par with his only bogey at the first hole and all remaining holes played in par. His back nine included 2 birdies and 4 pars with single bogeys for a very solid round of golf.

Fourth prize went to Liam Mackle with 41 points with fifth prize was claimed by Martin O’Hagan again with 41 points. The seniors prize was won by Patrick McGleenan with 41 points.

Section prizes: 0-12 Michael Gorman with 40 points; 13-18 Jeff Conway with 41 points; 19-28 Damien McGready with 41 points. There were 9 twos on the day.

Next week’s competition is Captain’s Day, the biggest competition of the year and once again we are asking all members to come down on Friday at 7.00pm for a divot and pitch mark repair evening following the success of the last evening the club held prior to President’s Day. The committee would ask as many members as possible to come down and bring a bucket or container to help tidy up. Your support in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
