Tony leads wayon Captain’s Day

The winner with 44 points was Tony Beeton, he had a front nine of 20 points with five pars at the 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th and 9th holes, three bogeys and one double bogey.

Tony had a great back nine of 24 points which included one birdie, six pars and only two bogeys to win by two points.

In second place with 42 points was Dermot McCabe, the seasoned senior campaigner had a front nine of 20 points with three pars and six bogeys. His back nine of 22 points included four pars and five bogeys.

In third place with 41 points was Darren McCabe with a great round of level par, he had a front nine of two under with three birdies, five pars, and only one bogey. His back nine of two over contained seven pars and two bogeys to complete a good day for the McCabe family.

The best gross score on the day was shot by course record holder Chris Watt with an excellent three under par 69.

He had a front nine of 34 with two birdies, one bogey and seven pars. His back nine of two under contained two birdies and seven pars to continue his great form.

Fourth place went to Conor Haddock with 40 points. He had 17 points on his front nine, with four pars, and a great back nine of 23 points which included one birdie at the 14th money hole and three pars.

In fifth spot with 40 points was Shane Mulholland. He had 19 points on his front nine, which included six pars two bogeys and one no-score. His back nine of 21 points had one birdie at the 14th hole, five pars, two bogeys and one double bogey.

The second gross prize was won by Fintan McAreavey with a gross 75. Fintan had a front nine 38 with seven pars, one bogey and one double bogey. His back score of 37 included two birdies, five pars,and two bogeys.

The Junior prize was won by Conor McCabrey with 38 points, second was Aaron Doyle with 38 points.

The Senior prize was collected by Brian Brady with 39 points.

Club captain Frank Gallagher thanks everyone for their help and support throughout the day and for making it such a success, particularly the green staff, golf and ski centre and Ashburn hotel.

On Monday Silverwood hosted the latest round of the Mid Ulster Seniors League. Unfortunately Silverwood were not able to produce a good result and finished with a modest total of 112 points. This managed to move the team one place further up the league to 6th and with two venues left it is going to take an almighty effort to reach the fourth place target. Best scorers were the Joe McAvoy and John Clarke with 39 points, closely followed by the Kellys (Joe/Francis) with 38.

Next venue is Kilkeel on 20th August, with all to play for.”
