Tracey gets the verdict

THE City of Derry Building Society sponsored Open stableford staged at Foyle on Saturday enjoyed an excellent entry with the competitors enjoying fine conditions with the Ballyarnett course in pristine condition.

The competition ended with a 40 points three way break of tie, with a member of the successful Pierce Purcell Team, Raymond Tracey (16) getting the verdict with Kieran Duffy (12) and Sean Mooney (20) finishing second and third respectively.

Claiming the gross prize was City of Derry member Iain Anthony with 31 points and fellow Prehen member Ralf Hamilton (13) secured the visitors prize after the scored 35 points.

Bill McChrystal (15) with 21 points won the back nie and Oran Canning (25) with 34 points was the juvenile winner and Sadie O’Kane (20) with 35 points was the ladies winner. The CSS was 35 points.

Last Friday’s open stableford competition was won by Paul O’Brien (17) after he scored 41 points and Gary Etherson (9) with 40 points was second and after a break of tie finish Declan Doherty (14) from Strabane was third with 39 points and Jarlath Clarke (10) from City of Derry won the visitor’s prize after he scored 38 points.

The end of summer nine hole scramble was claimed by Stephen Martin, Jim McGrotty and Mark Doherty after they scored 28.0 points, second was Lawerance Powell, Kieran Duffy, Cormac Cassidy and Leo Young who finished on 28.3 points and Martin Campbell, Damien McColgan, Kevin McBride and Brenda Cooke with 28.7 points was third.

Last Wednesday’s club stableford competition was claimed by Alan Manning (14) after he scored 43 point and Raymond Keys (21) with 38 points was second. The CSS was 36 points

Tomorrow (Wednesday) the Club Stableford competition is down for decision and the weekly open stableford competition takes place on Friday.

On Saturday the Gary Breslin Memorial Open Golf Classic (teams of 4 any combination) in aid of CLIC SARGENT will take place, prizes on offer are Razr ball divers x 4, golf bags x 4, golf shoes x 4 and polo shirts x 4; while on Sunday the club sweep competition takes centre stage.
