‘Tree wood’ is removed from local golf club

GALE force winds during the Christmas holidays brought down some trees on the course at Lisburn Golf Club.

Poplar trees at the 11th had to be cut down and a crane was required to remove one large tree which fell near the driveway.

You could say it was a ‘tree wood’.

Back to the golf and some fine iron shots helped Bill Murphy (19) return the best score at Blaris last weekend

The Team Winter League was played over the back nine with Bill scoring 23 points. After pitching out of the fairway bunker at 11 he struck a fine seven iron shot to a few feet and holed for an unlikely five. He looked like having a big score at 14 until a wedge shot finished close for a bogey six

Over the remaining holes Bill kept his game together and finished with a par three to clinch Section 3 by two points from Martin McDonald (19) with Ted Mulholland (18) third on 20. Ted holed his third shot at 14 for an eagle three.

It was close at the top of Section 2 with Martin Blakely (13) getting the verdict over Brian Wilkinson (15) after they tied on 22 points. Greg Ferris (12) was third, beating Gerard McErlean (15) on the last six holes.

Eddie Beatty (22) won Section 4 by one point from Eric Wilkinson (23) and David Galway (25) who tied on 20 points. Eric got the verdict on count back.
