Trolan Annual Golf Classic to the fore again

As in previous years organisers are delighted to have been granted, without charge, the facilities of Portstewart Golf Club, and the opportunity to play their Championship Strand Course, for which they are very grateful for. The event will take place on Thursday 4 July with the presentation of prizes on the night.

Action Cancer is one of the best known local charities here in Northern Ireland. We all know of someone whose life has been touched by cancer and will have witnessed the misery and suffering associated with the disease. Members of Portstewart Golf Club can empathise, with the loss of so many good golfing friends, especially in the most recent months. Action Cancer is a very deserving charity and is a leading light in the fight for freedom from cancer to all in our community and country.

Thirty-four ‘four balls’ played last year (exactly the same as 2011) and all experienced the best of Portstewart with `wall to wall’ sunshine throughout the day, what a change from other years! With all your donations and sponsorship, the final amount you raised for Action Cancer was £9,360. On behalf of Action Cancer thank you all. It was again terrific to have visiting golfers in the prizes; it made their journey very worthwhile.

The services of Action Cancer’s Big Bus will be available again this year. This is a terrific service for our local community but can only be offered on a first come first serve basis. Anyone wishing to avail of these services can make an appointment by contacting Action Cancer on 028 9080 3344.

We are all too aware of the economic doom and gloom which continues to exist, and charities are not exempt from its `knock on’ effects, experiencing an acute downturn in donations, which is their lifeblood. But organisers are calling for people, just for one day, to forget about all the financial doom and gloom around us, and come to Portstewart Golf Club for a brilliant day of golf and companionship.
