Valley’s comeback stuns Castlerock in Ballymena

Castlerock would have thought they had victory in the bag as they were up in every match at one point but Roe Park showed resilience to fight back and claim a close 3&2 win.

A win over their local rivals will certainly give the team confidence going into the next round.

The Jimmy Bruen team did not fare as well as they were beaten by Ballycastle at Gracehill GC last Thursday.

In another very busy week at Roe Park, Keith Bennett played some exceptional golf as he won Thursdays’ Club stableford with an unbeatable 43 points.

Colin Harkin and Gavin Logue both had 39 points with Colin taking second place courtesy of a better back nine. Kieran Berryman claimed the gross prize with another fine round.

A huge turnout on Saturday saw a monthly medal sponsored by M&M Electrics and Sean 
McKeever shot a superb nett level par round of 70 to claim victory.

With the course playing at its longest Sean played his best round of the year which included two fantastic birdies at holes four and five.

Senior member Derek Simpson showed age is only a number as he carded a nett 72 to claim second place ahead of Joel Adlard in third.

The gross prize was won by none other than the inform Kieran Berryman with a fine round of 76.

Golfer of the year is certainly heating up as Kieran Berryman makes a welcome return to form to defend his title.

Kieran now sits on top of the table with 37 points with early leader Andy Young knocked into second place on 30 points.

Kieran’s father Liam could also have a big say in who takes the title this year as he shares second place.

Many expect a titanic battle for the title this year as inform players such as Kieran and Andy continue to pick up consistent points, so it’s a case of watch this space.

Ballerin GAA held an open team competition on Friday with some superb prizes including a car for a hole in one at the third hole.

The course was enjoyed by huge numbers who turned out in support of the club which included the likes of Dungiven light welterweight boxer Paul McCloskey.

Saturday also had huge numbers turn out in support of the Kevin Lynchs hurling club who visited Roe Park hosting an Open Team Competition.
