Cairndhu Golf Club’s President, Hugh Logue, took top spot at Derek Taylor’s Captain’s Day on Saturday.

Logue carded an excellent 42 points, seeing off the challenge from runner-up Nicholas McClay (41 points) and Gary Brennan, who was third on 40 points.

Close to 180 competitors took to the course for what proved to to a great day’s golf. The Gross Prize winner was Stephen Watts with 38 points.

The Council Past Captain’s Prize went to Alex Maguire (37 points), while Eddie Russell won the Veterans’ Prize with 40 points.

Meanwhile, Cairndhu Ladies’ Intermediate Cup team defeated Castlerock on Sunday to progress to the quarter-finals where they will play Malone GC.

Gary McKinstry’s Holt Shield team have qualified for the knockout stage of this year’s competition. Despite a poor start to the league, the team has produced some great performances culminating with a 3-2 win at Whitehead and a 4-1 win at home to Castlereagh Hills which has seen them top their group.

Elsewhere, Cairndhu’s juniors defeated Omagh on Friday to progress to the last eight of the Fred Daly Trophy to face the winners of Clandeboye GC or Foyle GC.
