Watt a performance as George claims win at Galgorm

Daniel Reilly, playing off a revised handicap of three, held a slender one point advantage after 13 over Malachy Bellew (4) in Division 1 of the Back 9 Sweep at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

Paul Hughes (5) and Stephen Mailey (3) were another point behind with George Watt (5) a further point adrift. Approaching the Lowlands the lead had changed with Bellew and Mailey one point ahead of Riley, Hughes and an improving Watt.

Watt continued his run and finished with two birdies to take first place. Reilly (par, birdie) finished a point behind and won the Gross.

Bellew (par, bogey) , Mailey (par, bogey) and Hughes (two pars) finished together and Hughes with a better last three took second place with Bellew and Mailey inseparable tying for third place.

In Division 2 through 13, Michael Burton (8) was holding a slender one point lead over Jonathan Larmour (8), Noel McAlynn (8) and Norman Nicholl (9) with Norman Dunbar (8) a further point behind.

After the Grove Burton was joined in the lead by McAlynn with Larmour, Nicholl and Dunbar only a point behind. McAlynn parred seventeen to take a one point lead from Burton (bogey, Larmour (par) and Nicholl (par). Dunbar (bogey) was another point away.

McAlynn and Nicholl both ‘dinged’ the last, leaving the other three players to take advantage which they did. Larmour came home with a par to take first place by a point with Burton (bogey) taking second place and Dunbar (bogey) third (better last three).

Division 3 saw James Campbell (12) hold a one point advantage from Seamus Laverty (10) after 13. David Cameron (13) (‘ding at 11) and William Kennedy (9) were another point behind.

Laverty and Cameron joined Campbell in the lead one point ahead of Kennedy. Again ‘dings’ had a part to play in the finish when Cameroln ‘dinged’ the last for his second of the round. Laverty with a par, double bogey finish won by one point from Cameron (bogey, - ), Kennedy (2 bogeys) and Campbell (triple bogey, bogey). second place went tol Cameron with a better last six with Kennedy third (better last three).

Twos were recorded by: P Coleman, D Cousley, G Henry, J Mairs, C Steele and D McIlroy.

FRONT NINE SWEEP

Jim Millar (10) and James McClintock (8) were two points ahead of Ronald Beckington (5) through four with Steve Henry (14) another two points further behind.

After seven Millar was a clear two points ahead of McClintock follolwed by Beckington and an improving Henry another point behind.

Over the closing two holes it looked possible that the leader could be caught and at the finish only one point separated the four players. However Millar with a bogey, par finish held on to win by one point from Henry (par, double bogey), Beckington (bogey, birdie) and McClintock (par, double bogey) and with a better last six Henry took second place.
