Win for Love at Prehen

ELEVEN handicapper Jonathan Love took the first prize in the City of Derry Building Society sponsored Open at Prehen on Saturday.

Having carded a fairly modest winning total of 39 points, an ugly six at the last causing him some concern as to the eventual outcome but on a pleasant day for golf that was just enough to see off no less than six other players all finishing on 38 points.

Best of these when the counting was completed was a back to form Bert Glackin (14) who had 22 points over that vital stretch followed by James Desmond (15) with his 21 points and in fourth place and the best gross was Conor McGurgan (2). He took the gross prize on a tie break.

The postponed Chambers Concrete Team Classic will now take place on Saturday, October 26, followed by prize giving for that and other outstanding competitions including match play and Golfer of the Year.

Kealan Quigg (+ 1) was best of the players taking part in Prehen’s popular weekly Thursday Open and followed closely the example shown by the previous week’s winner (Eddie Burton) in having the best gross and the best nett of the day with his well compiled 37 points (38 gross).

His only blemish on an otherwise perfect round was a blank at the “Water” hole.

Gary Brown (9) finished in second place having the same score as the winner but losing out on the count back. Best of the visitors on 34 points was Declan Ryan (10) from Foyle with 34 points.

Meanwhile the popular Wednesday Quiz resumes on October 9th.
