Winter League at Foyle very tight

When the third cards were counted in the Desmond Motors Winter League, at Foyle, Team 1 hold a slim lead.

Team 1 of Gary Kennedy, Michael Duffy, Mark McIntyre and Harry Lafferty have accumulated 227 points and lead Team 7 of Kieran Bradley, Martin Loughrey, Stevie Moore and Joe Bradley are a point behind.

In third spot at the minute is Team 2 of Scott Kennedy, John Morrison, Ciaran Gillen and Ryan Gillen who have 274 points.

Team 20 of John Jennings, Dermott Harkin, Mark Doherty and Ciaran O’Doherty with 272 points are fourth. Team 15 of Paul McGrillis, Stephen Doherty, Anthony Faulkner and Kevin McDermott with 268 points are currently in fifth place.

In the leading Ladies section after three cards Team 16 of Anne Hamilton, Margaret Killen and Christine McCafferty with 145 points currently lead the way, with Team 22 of Maureen Louden, Myra Gough and Lorna Thompson are second with 141 points and Team 18 of Ann Fulton, Denise Callan and Jennifer Rainey with 138 points are sitting in third spot.

The very good turnout for week four of the Foyle Sunday Society had to contend with strong winds and heavy showers in the early part of the day.

It was three 12 handicappers who made the top three positions with the ever consistent Martin Loughrey making light of the conditions to post an excellent winning score of 40 points closely followed by Ciaran O’Doherty with 39 points and Stevie Moore with 38 points was third.

The Turkey competitions were won by Martin Tope, Paul Hegarty, Martin Loughrey and Joe Bradley.

The Desmond Motors Winter League and Turkey competitions continue daily, while on Sunday the Foyle Sunday Society takes centre stage.

Meanwhile at City of Derry the ladies 13 hole stableford competition held recently was won by Lucy Smyth (15) after she scored 24 points, Maire McReynolds (12) with 23 points was second and Marie Clifford (17) with 21 points claimed third spot.
