Winter sweep events well underway at Raceview

The winter sweep competitions are now underway at Ballymena Golf Club, over the reduced 13-hole format and with adjusted handicaps.

The first of the competitions, on November 2, was won by Michael Smyth (4) with a total of 29 points, 12 of which came on the final four holes.

That pushed Eugene M Reid (14) into second place over those final four holes after he also scored 29 points.

Third nett went to Ryan Hamill (12) with 28 points, while the best gross card came from Sean McGarry who played the 13 holes in three over, 53 shots.

* The sweep on November 9 saw Christopher Magee (3) set a blistering pace with a total of 33 points, which included six birdies, for a round of four under gross.

Two points back came Gary Black who had four birdies and no dropped shots in his round.

Category one was won by Paul Stevenson (6) with 30 points, while Gordon Bell (8) notched the same total to win category two.

Category three was won by Gerard McCann (12) with 28 points, while Roy Worthington (18) notched 30 points to win category four.

Best gross came from Sean McGarry (3) with a one under gross round of 49 shots.

SENIORS

The monthly seniors competition over the full course resulted in a win for Allen Stewart (13) who scored 41 points, 22 of them coming from the second nine.

Second place went to Bob Bartley (18) with 40 points, while Fergie McKelvey (10) was third, a point further back.
