Wilbert got off to a dream start with par at the first four holes. Another par at the 6th and a brilliant birdie at the par three 8th gave him a total of 22pts for the first nine. A single bogey at the 10th was followed by five straight pars before a double bogey at the par three 16th. Another par at the 18th secured the 44pts and the winning score.

Aaron Smylie (24), who has been among the prizes fairly regularly, took second place after a excellent round, scoring 43 pts. Three pars in each nine was ruined by the two double bogeys at 4 and 16 but the no score at the 10th could well have cost him the winners spot. Third place was taken by Tommy Coulter (12) after a count-back when three players finished on 41 pts. Tommy’s round included nine pars and two birdies but he will regret the 7 at the 15th, index one, once again the spoiler of a good card.

Frank Murray and Dermont Magee (24) were the other two players with 41 pts. Best Gross was won by John Oakes. The Wednesday Hat was won by Gary Scott (11) with an outstanding performance scoring 46 pts.

The Ulster - Fourball team put up a gallant fight against Clones at Aberdelghy on Saturday. Although they were 4 1/2 to 1/2 down the boys took it to the wire. A very strong Clones team took the one win they needed in the second game 2 and 1 after losing the first by the same score. Lambeg were one up in two of the other games and all square in another before they were called in.

The Ulster Cup team had a similar fate when they lost to Bushfoot at Aberdelghy on Sunday. Bushfoot needed two wins to go into the next round but they did not get them easy. Andrew Burrell and Stephen Johnston came in with two big wins, both 7 and 5. Darren McShane was 6 up with six to play but Michael Pollins lost two up and Raymond Rodgers 5 and 4 to give Bushfoot the required wins.
