Young team perform brilliantly in Senior Cowdy

Banbridge have won the Senior Cowdy Cup in the last two seasons. They started the defence of their title last Sunday at Spa Golf Club.

New captain, Jonathan Shannon, took a relatively youthful team to Spa for the first round away leg. He couldn’t have wished for a better start.

Luke Woods won 3 and 2 and got all 4 points.

Josh Lockhart won 1 up and he got three and a half points.

William Malcolmson won 4 and 3 and he too got the maximum 4 points.

Andrew Quinn lost 2 down but he got a valuable half a point.

Connor Mulholland lost by one hole and he also got half a point.

Mark Crory halved his match. That was another 2 points.

Jonathan Shannon lost 3 and 2. He managed to salvage half a point.

Jonathan Burns won 2 and 1 and he got 3 points.

So, the score at the halfway stage is Banbridge 18 Spa 14.

It is hoped to play the second leg on Friday June 27.

This was a superb result for this young team. Would it be too soon to think about winning the Senior Cowdy for three years in a row?

And, by the way, there were no 2’s recorded in this sweep so a major rollover is building up.
